Birthday Shenanigans

Delaney was opening her birthday presents yesterday, and she got the wrapping paper off the back side of one of them first so all she could see was the back of the box, and she says "oh, I guess it's a box"

Again with the honesty

Delaney is helping my mom fold laundry. She pulled a pair of underwear out of the basket and said "here are your big ol' underpants - they're HUGE!"

At least she's honest

  • I was at the end of my rope the other night, I had asked Delaney to do something at least five times and she hadn't done it yet. So i asked her "WHY do I have to ask you OVER AND OVER to do something before you finally do it?" and she said "well, because I don't listen"
  • She was drawing pictures last night in the tub with her bathtub crayons, and she said "I'm going to draw Daddy. He has a big big head"
  • Overheard by me as she was playing quietly by herself "I'm mommy. I'M in charge!"

Random Naneyisms

Because I'm too lazy to come up with thread titles for all of them

while we were eating dinner
"I'm really enjoying this dinner"

while coloring with her bathtub crayons
"I believe I'll choose pink"

when my mom asked her if she would please stop asking "why"
"No, I wouldn't"

to one of her dolls she was carrying when we were walking the dogs
"Lizzie, we're going this way because Mama doesn't want to have to deal with Wiley going in that lady's garden. No Lizzie, this way. We are going THIS way. Soon I'm going to get aggravated with this baby..."

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Oh lord

My aunt taught Delaney Janis Joplin's Merecedes Benz, except Delaney sings "oh dear lord, wontcha bah me, a cullller TV"

Aggravating

Delaney said something to my mom yesterday that she didn't intend to be funny, but my mom couldn't stop laughing. The more she laughed, the more Delaney said "it's not funny!", the more she laughed, etc. Finally Delaney said "this is really aggravating!!!"

It's been a while

Sorry, I just don't have a ton of time to post much anymore. thanks for checking in though.

Yeah, it was just that simple

This morning Delaney asked me why I'm the Mama. I said because I am, I'm you're mama and you're my baby. She said "Did you name yourself that?"

And more bedtime shenanigans

After I put Delaney to bed last night, I was going about the usual house work that can only be done after she's in bed when I saw her strolling through the living room toward the front door with one of her purses slung over her shoulder. I asked her where she was going and she said "I have to go pay the bills"

More surliness

Delaney kept getting up out of bed the other night after I had tucked her in, meanwhile I was trying to work out. The last time she got up, she wanted me to come in and rub her back, but I told her no, I was busy but I'd come back into her room later and rub her back. Which I did but of course she was asleep.

The next morning I was eating my breakfast and she stormed out of her room with a scowl on her face and said "I thought you were gonna rub my back!"

The package

I received a UPS package the other night that had been left at the apartment complex office, so I told Delaney we had to walk over there to get it. When we were almost there she asked me "so where is this package you were talking about?"

Context

It occured to me that some people who stumble across this blog may not realize that what makes these posts funny is that they're coming out of the mouth of a surly two-and-a-half year old girl.

TMI

I was in the bathroom this morning, doing my bidness, and Delaney walked up and stood in the doorway and got this look on her face like she was concentrating, and says "we're both peein'"

Neil Young - Sugar Mountain
Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone

Rainbows

We were talking about rainbows the other night, and Delaney asked me if she could touch one. I didn't want to tell her that she can't, so I just said "well, they're pretty high up in the sky" so then she asked me "will you lift me up so I can reach it?"

Bowling

We went bowling last night, and on our way to the bowling alley, Delaney was asking me how you bowl, so I told her about the lanes, and how you roll the bowling ball down the lane and try to knock down the pins. We got her a little 6-lb. bowling ball and helped her roll it down the lane. On one of her second frames, the ball didn't hit anything, but my sister cheered for her anyway and said "yay, good job Naney!" and Delaney looked at her with her face scrunched up and said "my ball didn't knock down any of the pins!"

The Stanley Cup

We went to the Red Wings Victory Parade last Friday (woohoo!) and when Nicklas Lidstrom went by holding the Cup, Delaney told me that when she gets big, she'll pick the Big Cup up!!!

YES!

The Fan

Delaney has decided that it's ok for her to take control of our fan. When we got home the other night, she took it upon herself to turn it on and told me "I turned the fan on because it was hot in here." oh thank you, what would I do without your highness.

Then the next morning I turned it off before we left. When she noticed that it was off, she put one hand on her hip, pointed at the fan with her other hand and said "WHO turned this fan off?!?"

I meant to do that

Delaney was playing in the bathtub last night with an empty bathtub finger paint bottle. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, but I heard her say "I meant to do that". I asked her what she did, and she said "I took the top off this and it fell in the water. I meant to do that."

Zeppelin

Delaney's new favorite song is Going To California by Led Zeppelin. Naturally she asked me to sing it for her at bed time the other night, which is no easy feat, it's mostly guitar, not to mention Robert Plant's unattainable range. But I winged it to the best of my ability, sang a few verses and tried to move on, and she said "no, California... he's got a nose..."

She wanted me to sing the bridge:

Seems that the wrath of the gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.

That kid pays attention!!!

honk-shu

We bought Delaney a toddler bed this weekend. After I got it all set up in her room, she laid down on it and said "Don't wake me up. I'm sleeping. honk-shu, honk-shu, honk-shu"

Don't think so

Delaney was at the post office with my mom, and she started chatting up these two older ladies. She carried on a little conversation with them, then said "I'm going to my Yaya's now to have lunch" and they said "oh that sounds nice, can we come with you?" She looks at them kinda sideways and says "uh... I don't think so"

Who?

Delaney has been really into birds and their songs lately, she alwasy wants to know which bird is making which sound.

We were reading one of her Farm Animals books last night. It asks which animal makes x sound. When I read the owl page - "who says hooo hoooo?" she said "mourning dove"

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Hey

Lately every sentence starts with hey.

"Hey, what is that?"
"Hey, who is that on the TV?"
"Hey, where are we going?"
"Hey, what shoes are you putting on me?"
"Hey, what kind of bird is that?"

Friday, April 18, 2008

Oh come on

We were at the grocery store, in the baby food aisle. She asked me for some and I said no, you're not a baby. She said "oh come on, I am a baby"

It matches

The day care teacher this morning said "oh, you have on pink shoes" and Naney said "yeah, they match my outfit"

I'm not sure

We were outside this morning and she said "what is that saying 'ketee ketee ketee?'" I said "is it a bird?" she said "uhhh (scrunches up her face) I'm not sure..."

Uh... yeah

This morning we were sitting on the couch cuddling right after I got her up. She took her arm back, swung it toward my face, stopping about a half inch from my face. Then she said "did I smack you right in the face?"

Who am I?

For the longest time, I couldn't call her anything except Dominik Hasek, to the point where she would not answer to Delaney or Naney. Apparently we've moved on from her being Dom all the time; now she's a different person every day.

So far she's been Dominik Hasek, The Goalie, Maid Marian, Jannot (the name of one of my friends that we had brunch with last weekend), and goalie-katoalie.

Today she's Darren McCarty.

"Your friend"

My mom took the three grandkids somewhere the other day. While they werein the car, my nephew was making the typical 8-year-old boy noises. Delaney turned to my niece and said "what is your friend saying?"

"These kids"

My sister was babysitting Delaney; when I got back to her house, Naney was laying on my niece's bed with my niece & nepehw. I said "what are you doing?" She said "I'm laying here with these kids. Take a picture of us."

The Goalie

Delaney started referring to herself in the third person last week, except she's calling herself "the goalie", and I am "the goalie's mama."

"The goalie is in the car seat"

"The goalie's mama is driving the car"

"The goalie is in the stroller walking the dogs"

She went up to my mom with a barette hanging out of her nose and said "the goalie put that up his nose."

Stevie Ray Vaughan

In an effort to expose her to the good things in life from an early age, we were watching an SRV concert on On Demand. When Stevie was playing the guitar behind his back, I pointed it out to Naney. The next time we were watching, I wasn't paying much attention, and she said "look mama, it's behind his back!"

Kicking off

I was telling a Delaney story to my friend Tani, and she suggested I start blogging Delaney stories so here it is. All the Naney stories you can stand, and then some.
