My mom was complaining about the weather - too warm to be cold and too cold to be warm - and Delaney said "well, I guess you're just going to have to deal with it".
We were listening to Bob Seger in the car - Live Bullet is Delaney's favorite album - and she said "I need to learn how to play those songs because when I grow up and I'm in a band I'm going to play those songs

Varmint

This is why she gets away with such a high level of varminticity

I'm.... sorry?

The other day I was carrying Delaney over my shouler like a sack of potatoes, and she started yelling at me that I was hurting her. "ow ow! you're hurting my leg! stop!" so I put her down and said I'm sorry. She said "well sorry doesn't do me any good!"

Roller Coaster

I'm not sure what's up with the gloves and the hat, as it was 80° yesterday. I asked her about it and she said "because... I just did"
Also, last night while we were eating dinner, she asked me how my day was. lol

More Random Naneyisms

  • My sister and I were celebrating our birthday last week. Delaney brought me the present that my sister had bought for me, handed it to me and said "I bought this for you, mama, happy birthday"
  • We were talking about vitamins, and I told Delaney that you get vitamin C from fruits like oranges, strawberries, and kiwi, and she said "what about vukka, is that a fruit" and I said "what's vukka, I've never heard of that" and she said "it's vukka. Now you've heard of it"
  • Delaney was cleaning up a big mess that she had made, and she said to my niece "Tryn, you're such a good cousin, I know you'll help me clean this up"
  • My mom and Delaney were sitting across the street from a seafood restaurant that has a big lobster as part of its logo. Delaney asked my mom if that was the lobster joint.

Three-year-old logic

Ms. Sweet Tooth always wants candy first thing in the morning. I told her she has to have some real food first. She's been sitting on the couch watching cartoons for about an hour now and she just told me "I've been laying her all the livelong day, so can I just have some candy now?"

First crush (possible House spoiler, btw)

I'm pretty sure Delaney has a crush on Chase from House M.D. All of a sudden she has a new imaginary friend named Chase (although the original imaginary friend, Saga, is still around to take the blame for Delaney's wrongdoing). And she keeps talking about the "ending from House" - she snuck out of bed Monday night at 8:45 and I wasn't about to miss the ending. Last night she said "tell me about the ending from House" and I said "when they got married?" and she said "yeah. I'm that girl".

Delaney the yogi

My mom was struggling with getting Delaney out of her carseat and getting frustrated. She muttered an "arrgh" or something and Delaney said "take a deep breath".

She said the same to me when I was complaining about my new-ish jeans falling apart.

Musical what?

Delaney was taking care of some potty business the other day and I was whistling a tune. She asked me why I was whistling while she peed - "because my pee sounded kinda musical?"

Changing gears here

Getting away from the funny for a bit, I don't want to jinx it, but I feel compelled to document Delaney's unusual fascination with all things related to medicine. As I noted in previous posts, she absolutely has to watch anything to do with doctors or hospitals, even if it's just a commercial. She wanted to watch a doctor show tonight and the only thing that was on was Scrubs, so we watched for a bit. She probably asked me a dozen questions in as many minutes. When it was over, I picked a mild episode of Medical Mysteries on OnDemand, about a boy whose kidneys could not break down cystiene. She asked me all kinds of questions about his symptoms, and when it was over she wanted to look at pictures of kidneys in my Anatomy & Physiology book. We spent a good 10 minutes looking at it.

Earlier in the day she spent another 10 minutes looking at the bone chapter again. When I tried to turn the page to show her something else, she got irritated and said "turn it back to where I was!"

She had an ear infection about a month ago and she naturally wanted to know why, "why" being her favorite word. I figured since she had shown so much interest already, I'd tell her something close to the truth. I told her she had "bugs" in her ears that were making her sick, and when she asked what they looked like, I showed her a picture of a streptococcus organism. She hasn't stopped asking about those bugs, so I'm thinking she might enjoy one of these:

Yes, it's a Streptococcus pyogenes plush toy.

Dr. Delaney - no seriously

Delaney spent a good 10-15 minutes tonight looking at my Anatomy & Physiology book. She's fascinated by the bones and the muscles. She asks me all the time if she can look at it, and at my "book about being sick" - my Pathophysiology book.

She also absolutely has to see any commercials about doctors or hospitals.

Paging Dr. Delaney

Naney wanted to take her doctor kit to day care today, in case she needed to give her friend Louie a shot. I kept telling her that she's not allowed to bring her own toys to day care, but every time I said it, she had a different argument for why she needed to - among them being that she's House. As in House M.D.

Brown = stinky

My mom has this brown coat that Delaney apparently hates. She kept making comments to my mom about her "icky brown coat". Later that day they were in the car and my mom said "something kinda smells bad in here" and Delaney said "maybe it's that brown coat"

I missed you, too

Naney came home Wednesday after a week in Texas visiting her dad's family. She had been home for about an hour and I asked her for a hug, and she said "no way, I already gave you a hug".
